Night Light for Babies & Newborns

Newborn sleep is a delicate ecosystem of color, sound, temperature, and rhythm. The right nightlight protects your baby's melatonin, helps them settle, and lets you see what you're doing during 3 a.m. feedings — all without flipping a single overhead switch.

The nightstand setup

For the first year, the gold standard is simple: warm color + steady sound + sleep timer. Night Light X gives you all three in one free app, with no extra hardware on the nursery shelf.

Color: amber or red

Amber is the classic nursery color — bright enough to function, warm enough to leave melatonin alone. Red is gentler still, perfect for very-late feedings when you're trying not to wake yourself. Keep brightness low; the goal is to see, not to illuminate.

Sound: womb sounds, then white noise

For the first 3–4 months, womb sounds are the most reliably calming audio for newborns — they recreate the muffled, rhythmic environment your baby spent nine months in. As your baby grows, transition to white noise or pink noise for general sleep masking.

Sleep timer: 30–60 minutes

Don't let audio or light run all night. Use the sleep timer to fade out 30 to 60 minutes after baby is asleep — long enough to bridge the early light-sleep stage, short enough to leave the room dark and quiet for deeper sleep.

Pediatric guidance: Keep volume around 50 dB and place the device at least one meter from the baby's head. The AAP and other pediatric groups recommend warm-amber-to-red lighting for night feedings.

Why an app beats a plug-in nightlight

A traditional nursery nightlight does one thing in one socket. Night Light X covers color, sound, story, and timer in one place, travels with you, and updates with new features over time. No extra cords, no batteries to swap, no shelf real estate.
